IT'S A BOY!

We FINALLY got the chance to design our first nursery! Because we couldn't get to know our tiny client, who was waiting to make his debut a few months later, we got to know Mom and Dad. One of the first things we noticed in the home is a great piece of art that shows where all the national parks are located. That paired with exposed brick and rustic, re-purposed wood pieces gave us the inkling that nature and woodland creatures would be a perfect theme for this nursery. On top of that Mom is from Portland, OR and Dad is from the Hudson Valley in NY, both known for great hiking , camping and breath taking landscapes. What more inspiration did we need?!?!

Our goal was to turn dad's office,  which was an en suite from the master bedroom, into the perfect cozy nursery.

When thinking of adventure, the first thing that comes to mind is excitement and endless possibilities. A huge factor in designing this room was creating a nursery that could easily transition into a toddler's room. Here are some of our inspirations.

The crib had already been ordered, so that was the perfect jumping off point. Navy with natural wood grain really set the tone and we paired that with a few other colors to create our palate for the room.

A wooden plaque we found while shopping that said "Adventure Awaits" became the theme for this room.

We chose an arrow stencil to accent the two smaller walls to create the illusion of a larger space. By using that pattern all the way up the wall we drew focus to the height of the ceilings. Anne is the master of stencils, so we let her loose to create the backdrop, with help from the family's pooch.

The couple already had a leather chair which would be perfect for feedings and story time. We created 3 shelves by re-purposing Dad's old desk to create storage and open up floor space. Mint green brackets held the shelves to house The Hungry Caterpillar, Good Night Moon, Harold and the Purple Crayon and Where the Wild Things Are to start our little adventurer's first library. With winter approaching we thought this Faux Fur throw was the perfect item for everyone to snuggle up in or take a nap on.

Now for our most difficult and unique task to this space was picking the right stuffed animals. Stuffed animals are no joke, people. The wrong animal could send the room in an entirely different direction! It was like being at a pet store. Each furry friend was cute, soft and cuddly in it's own way. Choosing who got to leave with us was next to impossible. We went with the baby fawn to hang out in the crib and this super soft fox to cuddle up for story time.

Opposite of the crib and reading area we hung striped curtains. The windows had beautiful moulding on them that we painted white to allow them to pop.  Accents were added around the room to add whimsy to the space.

While we were on the hunt to round out the space, we found these awesome prints of animals dressed in their best. The artist was also from Portland, OR so it was an added bonus for our muses.

And of course who could forget baby's first antlers. These antlers got a custom upgrade with a mint green treatment to the leather.

"WE HIRED APARTMENT CPR TO HELP US SET UP A NURSERY FOR OUR BABY AND WE LOVED THEM AND THEIR WORK SO MUCH THAT WE ENDED UP WITH 4 ROOMS COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED. NOT ONLY DO THEY HAVE A GREAT EYE FOR DESIGN AND INCORPORATING YOUR STYLE INTO THEIR DESIGNS BUT THEY ARE ALSO ABLE TO WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE AND MAKE IT ALL LOOK FANTASTIC TOGETHER. WE WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT AND HAVE RECOMMENDED THEM TO PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE WE KNOW." - DAD and MOM
